History of Search Engines
Years ago you could spend a few hours building a web site and maybe a month or two later you good potentially have a popular site with very little effort. Those were the days when search engine were new and ready to be abused. Search engines were hungry to find as many web site as possible to grow their popularity. If a given search engine had a larger index of web sites people generally would use that search engine to get more results during a given search. Because of this hunger search engine had little to no restriction in place to prevent people from abusing the system. People quickly found way to have a give web site shown at the top of search results even if the web site had nothing to do with what a person was searching for.
People quickly reacted to this abusive behavior and started using other search engines which in turn cause search engines lose their popularity and money. Search began to clean up their act by building search engines that are less likely to be abused as before. People are always finding shortcuts and other tricks to improve a site visibility on any or all search engines but it's nothing like before.
Now a days search engines are much like that popular group of people that everyone wants to be friends with. You can't just introduce yourself and automatically assume that your are part of this popular group... You have to take not just one step, but several steps to prove yourself as someone that important and should be noticed. To prove yourself you are going to have to put a lot of: time, effort, attention, and sometime a little money. Money will help you in the short team but it can not be depended on forever even if your pockets are deep.
What does this site have to offer?
My goal is that this site is easy to understand for people dealing with computers and the Internet as second language. Trust me, I know what it is like to not have a clue what you are doing and trying to make sense of what's going on. I think people struggle with computer and the Internet not because the can't learn how to work with them, but because we try to understand how everything works all at once which overloads our minds. Our common problem is that we look at all the options and quickly find the keyboard broken in a half and our heads hurting like nothing before. Slow down, and take the time to go one step at a time before mixing it up with other steps/options. This is the time to be "narrow-minded" in the sense of focusing on one area at a time. If you look at all that can be done to better your web site's visibility on the search engines your head is going to pop and your web site will quickly fall apart and or disappear into a blackhole.
This web site is not a instructional booklet for you to find step by step instructions on how to complete any given task.... think of it as more of a easy to understand suggestion guide. By taking this approach you avoid facing a overwhelmed amount of instructions and rather a place to quickly reference suggestions and other information for you to use.
